SMRT SAFETY AND EMERGENCY GUIDE

Everyday, two million passengers travel on SMRT’s network of trains, buses and taxis. When travelling with us, you can help enhance safety and security by being alert and playing a more active role. Together, we can make each trip a safe and secure journey for all.


Suspect it.
What you should do if you see:
SUSPICIOUS PERSONS – Do not confront the person. Inform SMRT Staff using the SALUTE guidelines;

Size
- How many persons were there?
- Note their gender, age and physical descriptions.

Activity
-What was the person doing?

Location
-Where was the exact location of the activity?

Uniform
-What was the person wearing?

Time
-What was the date?
-What was the time?
-How long was the duration of activity?

Equipment
-Provide information on any equipment use.
-Or any vehicle use.

Report it.
What you should do if you see:
UNATTENDED ITEMS – Check if the article is a possible threat by using the HOT guidelines;

H – Is it HIDDEN?
- Is the item purposely placed somewhere away from the common view?

O – Is it OBVIOUSLY suspicious?

- Are there signs of explosives devices such as a ticking sound?
- Fluids stains?
- Protruding wire or aluminum foil?

T – Is the item Not TYPICAL of the environment?
- Is it placed in an unusual setting?
- Example: Bag placed in the fire extinguisher cabinet.

Always be alert.
Inform SMRT staff or the Police to report unattended HOT articles by providing the details using the SALUTE guidelines:

Size
- Describe the size and appearance of the item.

Actual
- Who was the actual person who found it?

Location
- Where was it found?

Unusual
- Why was it suspicious?

Time
-When was it found?

Extra
-Provide any additional information.

In any emergency situation, you should
- Stay calm;
- Listen to instructions from SMRT staff;
- Move away from affected and dangerous areas;
- Assist children, the elderly and the physically challenged;
- Evacuate using the safest route and in an orderly manner.
